Lazy Day Wear

Source

On my lazy days (re: every day) when I spend all day cooped up inside the house, I'm usually wearing some ratty t-shirt and comfy flannel sweatpants. Nothing glamorous. Nothing I would want anybody to see me in. Not even my boyfriend. For him, I'll change into leggings and a long comfy tunic. Lazy with a slight touch of effort. Here is a feature of lazy days looking far more appealing than my real life ones.

Coffee Decisions

Source
There's this really cute little coffee shop around the block from where I work that I'm always passing and glancing in. Today, in honor of the snowpocalypse that's occurring around us, I just might venture out and treat myself to a premium coffee drink and read some more of Insurgent. Or, perhaps I'll stay warm inside and drink complimentary coffee and save Insurgent for before bedtime. Decisions, decisions.

Ready For Not Winter

This is the current state of my neighborhood. New York has literally been transformed into Narnia. Just when I thought that we would have a few days break from the snow, I woke up this morning to snowfall. I'm not much of a winter person to begin with though snow doesn't bother me too much, but this seems like it's shaping up to be the longest winter ever and I'm about ready to move to Hawaii or the Caribbean. In other news, I started reading the Divergent series. I ate up the first book in a few days and was going to read a book in between Divergent and Insurgent so as to not blend the plots together, but then I grabbed the second book on my way out this morning and managed to digest the first 40 pages on my morning commute. Also, my Valentine's Day dinner on Friday was a success! Keep in mind that I consider not burning the kitchen down to be a success. We had two courses and a side dish and while they could have been better, the fact that two novices in the kitchen even attempted to create a dinner is a win in my book. I took some photos of our first course that I'll maybe share, since it's kind of pathetic looking.

A Wintery Valentine

In the midst of a full blown snowstorm in NYC today, I'm beyond ready to curl up in a ball under the blankets and nap all day. Or continue reading Divergent. Or just stare out the window, instead of braving my commute home. Keeping me warm is this lovely (though fairly impractical) feature on The Evergirl about last minute Valentine's Day outfit preparations. Enjoy!

Bird? Plane? I Think It's A Falcon

I can't help it, black jeans are my go to. Boring? Perhaps, but not when they show off these killer heels, or that they go perfectly with any kind of comfy sweater. I've gotten a few compliments in the office on this sweater which I'm then asked what exactly it is on my shirt. The answer? I have no idea. But I'm going with falcon. Makes it, therefore me, seem more fierce.

Gloss Daily Feature: Hair Makeover

Before

After
Back in the middle of December, I decided to do something my 16 year old, 18 year old and 22 year old self was too afraid to do - dye my hair. I was fortunate enough that my job sent me to Nunzio Saviano, a swanky hair salon in the city where I knew that even if the color wasn't exactly what I wanted, at least it wouldn't get butchered. I was hoping to go for a deep red, like Christina Hendricks or Lindsey Lohan pre-crazy, but settled on a nice auburn brown. A few inches were trimmed off and I was given side bangs which I was really happy about. My makeover was featured on Gloss Daily earlier in January; you can read the article here!

Valentine's Day Planning

I’ve never not liked Valentine’s Day, though I do believe that it is a strictly painful commercial holiday. Why designate one day a year to show someone you care about them – it should be a daily occurrence. Though this is my first year celebrating it with a special someone, we really wanted to keep things on the simpler side and decided to cook dinner together on Friday night, and go out to a dinner on Sunday night. I’m such a fan of homemade gifts over overpriced store bought ones as I think the effort put into creating something is more significant than the amount paid so I’m really looking forward to creating dinner together.

Leopard Print Life

So, I haven't exactly stayed true to my February goal of an outfit a day, (really just an outfit during the work week). I was great on Monday and loved what I pulled together. Tuesday was another great outfit day, I just didn't get a chance to document it. Wednesday was the nasty day of snow so I dressed very down (I'm talking jeans and a plain black shirt) and Thursday's outfit was acceptable but not really blog worthy. Today's outfit was fine as well, it was just all black with a black lacy top, still not very blog worthy. But I did love the pop of animal print and these ballet flats are super duper comfortable so they get a shout out. I have a friend of a friend's birthday tonight and I brought heels to change into once I'm done commuting down to the restaurant, but honestly, these might remain on the entire night. Less than two years working in New York City and I'm already over the whole heels thing.

Winter Olympic Games - Sochi 2014

fun Olympic themed cocktails

I've always loved watching the Olympics and am super excited for this year's winter games. I won't be home tonight to watch the opening ceremony, but plan on catching up tomorrow morning. Have a good weekend everyone!

Draw Something

I've been feeling a strong urge lately to do something creative, to break up the monotony of the daily grind. So last night, I took a pencil, some printer paper, and decided to draw something freehand. I've been listening to the below song over and over and decided to create a lyrics print. I'll post the finished product soon!

Dark Prep

I made it a personal goal to challenge myself this February with an outfit post every day, to inspire some sartorial creativity in the mornings and also to put some meaning behind “fashion” in my Fashionably Late title. I love clothes, I love dressing up, and I love looking at other bloggers look books and street styles, but I just find it challenging to translate it to my own wardrobe (I’m always in neutrals and black and white). I also prefer the extra twenty minutes of sleep in the morning, but I’m trying to stick to my New Year’s resolution of  waking up to my alarm (so far, not good). Anyways, this is what I’m wearing today, on my first day of my personal blog challenge. Please forgive the fact that my face is cut off - I'm not shy, I just don't like having a phone plastered in front of my face. So instead, you'll just see awkward arm angles that are obviously holding a phone.

I bought these skinnies on impulse and they were one of my best purchased items in a long time. They fit like a glove, are super comfortable, super inexpensive, bunch in the perfect way around the ankle, and make me feel fabulous. I’ve had this flannel shirt for a long time and never thought to put a sweater over it to create a preppy look. Fun fact, I bought this sweater when I was studying abroad in Italy and though I never really find use to wear it, couldn’t bear to part with it. And now, voila. The owl necklace is the star of the show, which I bought for like, two bucks at the San Genaro festival two autumns ago. And the heels pull everything together. Let’s see what Tuesday’s outfit brings.
